Curlew POA

This is probably the most important sculpture of an English American historical significance of the Twentieth Century. "Jackie O", as she was known, was the wife and lover of some of the most powerful men of the twentieth century and brought taste and style to The White House. Jackie O was, without doubt, the most popular President's Wife there has ever been and she is considered an ikon of American Good Taste. The only other lady to match her stature was Princess Diana. Both were loved by high and low, by the entire world and both died tragically.

This sculpture is from her own PRIVATE collection, from Martha's Vineyard where Jackie Onassis would go to relax away from the public gaze and where she could be herself. The Kennedy and the Onassis clans made much of the history of America and this was an intimate part of their home. It is very rare for such a piece with connections to the Kennedys and Jackie O to come on the market.

Carved by Guy Taplin from one piece of wood, 42 inches from tip to tail, this Curlew is a graceful representation from a graceful lady.

When there was an auction sale devoted to Jackie O's private effects EVERY lot exceeded expectations. The label that an item had come from the Jackie O sale made ordinary items reach dizzy heights. A triple string of PLASTIC pearls fetched in excess of $200,000. It made the Princess Diana dresses look inexpensive by comparison.
