Dame Elizabeth Frink

Royal Academician

Dame Elizabeth Frink was born in Thurlow, Suffolk, in 1930. She was a student of the Guildford School of Art (1947-49) and Chelsea School of Art, London (1949-53), where she would later return to teach. Whilst still a student, one of her sculptures was bought by the Beaux Arts Gallery of London's West End. This was a great accolade for a student still in her twenties.
She specialised in animals and the human form; something she never deviated from unlike her peers who went with the fashion of abstract sculpture. This set her apart as did her focus on the male form.
