More from Banksy

Banksy

Banksy is Britain's most notorious and inventive "art terrorist" who specialises in sticking fake objects to the walls of major galleries and museums and waiting to see how long it takes for the curators to notice.
He is also renowned for his black and white stencilled graffitti works which appear in and around London and other cities of the world.

More from Blek Le Rat

Blek Le Rat

If you are thinking you have missed the boat / should have purchased BANKSY when you could have done - TAKE NOTE!

This is the start of the prices rising for Blek Le Rat - who is Banksy's hero (see quote below) At the IMPORTANT Auction at Bonhams 5th Feb 2008 it was assumed by many that the Banksy pictures would fly away while the other artists would struggle yet one estimated at £3-5,000- fetched over £50,000 by Nick Walker , and BLEK's made great money too. THAT is the day that Urban Art came of age. Some of Banksy's prints are selling for more than an Original by Le Rat and these are going up.

A legendary figure in street art Blek Le Rat (Xavier Prou) was born in Paris in 1951. Thought by many to be the father of stencil graffiti as an art form Blek began his unique, complex and intelligent stencil works on the streets of Paris in the 1980's. Hugely influential to the present generation of street artists the importance of Blek's work should not be underestimated as this quote from Banksy suggests:
'Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier...'

More from Carel Weight

Carel Weight

We currently have in stock a number of prints and original paintings.

Born 1908, trustee of the Royal Academy and Senior Academician, Professor Emeritus RCA & Doctor of Art.

Carel Weight is probably the most influential artist of the century. He studied at Goldsmiths as a youth and was set as a painter before he was made an Official War Artist. During his travels on behalf of (Sir) Kenneth Clarke as a war artist he saw the effect war had on streets and how quickly streets and places removed the signs of war even though the consequences on the people were lasting. He painted the images that had been seen but the traces removed.

He became one of the most popular of all teachers at the Royal College of Art. His pupils include David Hockney, Peter Blake, Ron Kitaj etc. He was so important as he says, "his job was not to teach them how to paint - but to teach them how to paint what they want to paint". This is what made him such a great painter - a combination of willingness to help and an understanding that there are things that the normal person does not see even as they pass a place where something monumental has happened.

A friend to many - he arranged to get Lowry elected to the Academy - and to numerous artists that he helped to fame, but he has never been a self publicist feeling he wants his friends to be able to afford and enjoy his pictures even though museums may be clamouring for them.

Carel has exhibited at virtually every major venue worldwide. His work is in every important collection of Modern British art including HRH Queen Elizabeth, Tate Gallery, The Fitzwilliam and Ashmoleon Museums, Imperial War Museum, Vatican collection, British Museum.
